Adrian 71, Albion 67

ADRIAN, Mich. — The Albion College men's basketball team fell back into a first place tie in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association after suffering a 71-67 overtime loss at Adrian College.

Junior center Brandon Crawford led the Britons with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Travis DePree added 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Sophomore guard Zak Silas was the third Briton to score in double figures with 10 points.

Adrian held a seven-point lead when Billy Schaefer canned a jumper to make the score 56-49 with 5:36 left in regulation.

Albion stormed back, scoring the next eight points to take a 57-56 advantage with 2:46 left. Silas started the rally with a three-point field goal, DePree scored an old fashioned three-point play and Crawford knocked down a jumper.

Albion grabbed a three-point lead, 63-60, when senior guard Mike Thomas hit a jumper with 19 seconds on the clock.

Adrian sent the game to overtime when Schaefer knocked down a three-point field goal with 10 seconds left. The Bulldogs scored the first six points of the extra period and never trailed.

"I think we were a good team coming into today, and we're still a good team going out of today," Albion College head coach Mike Turner said. "Their pressure was really good against us, but I thought our guys showed tremendous courage. We were out of it for a long time, but played hard to take it to overtime. Turnovers hurt us throughout the game, and we didn't make very many jump shots."

Adrian featured a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures. Billy Collins, Jr., and Steve Thornton scored 16 points apiece. Schaefer finished with 14, while Mike Lewis added 12.
