AMHERST, Ma. — Elms College sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) scored a team-high 16 points, but No. 7 Amherst College shot 56.1-percent from the field and had four players reach double figures to pull away to a 92-66 win over the Blazers in Tuesday night’s non-conference game at Lefrak Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Blazers fell to 8-6 overall. Amherst, the seventh ranked team nationally in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improved to 11-1 overall.

Senior forward Andrew Schiel (Wayne, PA) led the way for Amherst as he finished with a game-high 20 points. He scored 14 first half points, including 10 in the game’s opening 8:47 to stake the Lord Jeffs to an early 22-13 lead.

Amherst shot 58.8-percent from the field in the first half, including 7 of 14 from 3-point range, to jump out to a 52-34 lead at intermission.

The Blazers cut the deficit to 57-42 three minutes into the second half before the Lord Jeffs responded with a 7-0 run in the next 52 seconds to expand their lead to 64-42.

Amherst then put the game out of reach with 16-6 run in a six-minute span midway through the second half. Senior guard Russell Lee (Lorton, VA) keyed that run with a pair of 3-pointers and a layup in 40 seconds.

For the Blazers in the loss, freshman forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) finished with 14 points and freshman forward Nathan Hawes (New Hope, MN) scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half on 5 of 7 shooting from the field.
