Calvin held an eight point advantage midway through the first half, but the Scots maintained composure and grabbed a three point lead with just four minutes on the board in the first stanza before Calvin made a basket with seconds remaining to carry a two-point advantage into the lockerroom.
Calvin led by no more than five points in the second half as the Knights and Scots fought for every point in the low-scoring contest. The Scots posted a season-high 10 blocked shots while Jones and Anthony Naylor had season-high blocks with four and three, respectively.
Carl Hill scored four points, grabbed four rebounds and a personal season-high three steals in the loss while Naylor contributed six points and seven boards while Isaac Smith added six points and three rebounds. Drew Barnhart added four points and two boards to round out scoring for the Maroon and Cream.
Alma next travels to undefeated No. 2 Albion College for a 3 p.m. game Saturday (Jan. 22).
