The Violets, who shot 57.1% (40-70) from the field, led from start-to-finish and raised their 2004-05 record to 10-4.
NYU scored the first nine points of the game, but Hunter (1-13) pulled to within two points five times in the opening half before NYU settled for a 42-35 halftime lead.
With NYU still leading by seven, 45-38, early in the second half, the Violets went on a 46-17 run and took a game-high 36-poiint lead with only 3:13 left in the game.
Five Violets scored in double figures. Jared Kildare led the way with 21 points, shooting 8-12 from the field. Michael DeCorso had 12 points, while Jason Boone, Jeff Gilkerson and Daniel Falcon each scored 10.
Matt Basford totaled a career-high nine points for NYU.
Gilkerson had a team-high seven rebounds, as the Violets out-rebounded the Hawks 42-23.
Gerard Ciarleglio had 17 points for Hunter, while Naeem Mahmood added 15.
