Hood 92, Wesley 70

FREDERICK, Md. — The Hood College men’s basketball team won its third straight game Monday night and moved back to .500 on the season with a 92-70 win over Wesley College.

David Wilson led the way for the Blazers (8-8) with 22 points and Jesse Gutekunst recorded his third double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds—in just 24 minutes of play. Santo Provenzano also had a solid night for Hood with 19 points and Darnell Edmonds had eight points, four assists and five rebounds.

Josh Kline paced Wesley (2-10) with 18 points and Nick Minor had 11.

Hood, which is now 2-0 in its five-game homestand, took a 47-43 lead into halftime, but came out hot in the second half, opening the stanza on a 13-2 run to take a 60-45 lead with 14:53 to go. Never again would the Blazers lead by less than 12 points as they improved to 5-1 at home this season and kept the Wolverines winless on the road (0-7).

Wesley hung with Hood in the first half, thanks to 8-for-15 shooting from beyond the arc, but cooled in the second, going just 1-for-9. For the game, the Blazers out-rebounded Wesley, 44-27, and shot 50.8 percent from the floor—their second straight game of better than 50 percent—to 39.0 for the Wolverines.

Hood also turned 19 Wesley turnovers into 23
points while the Wolverines managed just 10 points off 13 Hood turnovers.

Now that the Blazers have matched their all-time best winning streak, they’ll try for four straight when they next get in action Sunday against Averett University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
