Trinity (12-4, 4-1) led just 32-27 at the half, despite shooting 63.6% from the field in the half. Rose-Hulman was held under 40% shooting in both halves, while Trinity kept up its red-hot shooting with 73.9% (17-23) shooting in the second period.
The Engineers cut the lead to just two points after a three-pointer on the second half's first possession, but the Tigers answered with eight straight points to take the 40-32 lead. Rose-Hulman got to within three with 12:14 to go, but Trinity's 13-0 run put the game away for good.
Peter Murray and Sean Devins were the only Tigers in double figures for the game, combining to hit 11-14 from the field. Murray had 13 points to go with his five rebounds and four assists, while Devins had 11 points and 10 boards to go with four assists and five blocks.
Andy Bates chipped in with nine points, while Jason Morris and Chad Stroberg scored eight points each. Ross Burt also added eight points off the bench, while Mitch Walker's two key three-pointers gave him six points.
Morris hit 4-6 shots in the game, and moved into ninth place on Trinity's all-time scoring list, passing Rich Skeen (1990-94). Currently, Morris has 1,254 points in his career.
Kareem Lee led Rose-Hulman with 12 points and eight boards, but played in foul trouble much of the second half. Phillip Griffith had 11 points and six rebounds as well, while Jason Ludwig finished with nine points and three assists.
Trinity also finds itself in a tie for the lead in the SCAC race, after DePauw defeated Southwestern in Georgetown. Both the Tigers and the Pirates are 4-1 in SCAC play this season.
Trinity will host Centre (3-2 SCAC) and Sewanee (2-3 SCAC) in continued conference action next weekend.
