Wilmington 80, Mount Union 68

WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers snapped a two-game losing skid with an 80-68 victory over the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College on Saturday evening.

Eric Stirling led four Quakers in double figures with 16 points, while also dishing out six assists.

The Purple Raiders came out strong in the game, taking a nine-point lead seven and a half minutes into the game that had been postponed four hours due to a miscommunication between the game officials and the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Quakers responded with a 16-2 run, taking a five-point lead with just under seven minutes to play in the game. The Purple Raiders kept clawing away, cutting the deficit to one at 35-34 for halftime.

The Quakers never trailed in the second half, despite the fact that their lead would not grow above seven for all but the last minute of the game. The Purple Raiders closed to within one on two separate occasions, the last with 2:40 to play in the game before the Quakers ended the game on a 13-2 run, giving the game its 12-point margin of victory.

Stirling scored 16 points while Deon Short scored 15 and David Guy and Zach Broermann each scored 13. Stirling pulled down a team-high six rebounds while dishing out six assists.

Mount Union was led by Kyle Karpinski, who scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting, while three others, Brad Gerard, Chris Blakely and Adam Stinogle each reached double figures.

With the win, the Quakers improve to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the OAC while Mount Union falls to 7-8 on the year and 3-5 in league play.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, January 19 when the team travels to Bexley, Ohio to take on the Crusaders of Capital University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
