The loss marked the fourth time this season, and second straight time, that Widener has lost in the final seconds of a ballgame. It also marked the first
time Widener has lost at home this season.
Senior guard Matt Sheaffer hit two foul
shots with just four seconds left to give Widener a 63-61 lead. On the inbounds pass, senior guard Jon Conner found Conrad in the corner for the
eventual game winner.
The game featured 17 lead changes and seven ties as both teams shot over 40
percent from the field.
Widener sophomore guard Essien Ford had a
game-high 17 points, while Sheaffer finished with 13. Sophomore forward Malcolm Thomas had 13 points off the bench for the Pioneers.
Elizabethtown put four players in double figures, with Conrad having 12.
Junior guard Greg Adams had 11, while Connor and senior forward Andrew Flynn each had 10.
Widener controlled the lead for most of the first half, as the Pioneers biggest lead came with 7:28 left as Thomas hit a three-pointer for a 23-17
lead. Elizabethtown then went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 29-23 lead. Sheaffer hit a three-pointer with 1:29 left to cut the deficit to 29-26 at the half.
Elizabethtown biggest lead in the second half came with 10:54 left in the second half at 45-39.
Elizabethtown out rebounded Widener 38-29 as Conrad grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Blue Jays. Thomas and junior center Kris Clarkson each had a team-high six rebounds for Widener.
Clarkson also had three blocks for the Pioneers.
Widener will host Lebanon Valley on Wednesday night.
