UW-Whitewater Makes it Eight of Last Nine, Now 12-4
UW-Whitewater Defeats UW-La Crosse 75-60

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated UW-La Crosse 75-60 in Mitchell Hall in La Crosse, Wisconsin Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks, winners of eight of their last nine games, are now 12-4 overall and 4-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-La Crosse is 4-12, and 1-6 in the league.

Despite a 40-22 halftime lead, as leading by as many as 23, 59-36 at 12:14 in the second half, the game was not always in UW-W's hip pocket. From that high water point for Whitewater, UW-L outscored the Warhawks 24-7 to pull within six at 66-60 with 3:30 remaining. Five of Whitewater's last nine points came on foul shots as the Eagles tried to stop the clock and gain possessions.

UW-W, in the "others receiving votes" category of the D3hoops.com poll, was led in scoring by sophomore guard Giovanni Riley's (Milwaukee/Marshall) 17 points. Junior forward Melvin Williams (Milwaukee/Riverside) added 13, senior center Angelo Griffin (Milwaukee/Bay View) 12, and sophomore forward Craig Anderson (Mount Prospect, IL) 10. La Crosse also had four players in double figures, led by sophomore center Joe Werner's 13. Freshman guard Chris Fehrenbach (11), and sophomore guard Chris Ask and junior guard Marcus Conigliaro (10) led the Eagles.

Whitewater shot 47% from the floor, while the Eagles struggled, hitting just 33%. The Warhawks also shot 50% (7-14) from three-point range, and outrebounded UW-L 44-30. Riley and freshman forward Rob Perry (Milwaukee/Dominican) topped UW-W with 7 rebounds apiece, while La Crosse's Werner grabbed a game high 8.

UW-Whitewater's next game will be Saturday, January 22 at 3:30, with UW-River Falls visiting Kachel Gym in Williams Center. UW-La Crosse will travel to UW-Superior Tuesday, January 18.
