The 110 points marked a season-high for the Saints as they won their second straight game, and snapped a two-game home losing streak.
Thomas More raced out to a fast start thanks to junior Andrae Woodard The guard scored three straight lay-ups for a 6-0 Saints lead. However, a 7-0 Panther run midway through the first half enabled them to take a brief one-point lead. A jumper by Chad Wachs on the Saints' ensuing trip up the court jump started a 18-4 run that put TMC up for good.
During that stretch the Saints were able to get out in transition. Thomas More finished the game with 24 fast break points compared to six by the Panthers. TMC dominated the contest in the paint, outscoring LaGrange, 62-28.
LaGrange scored the first four points of the second half, prompting a Thomas More timeout. Out of the T.O, junior R.K. Thurman connected on a three-point play to get the Thomas More lead back to 10. On several occasions the Saints appeared to be running away with the game, only to see LaGrange get the lead back to single figures.
The last time the Panthers posed a serious threat was following a lay-up with 4 minutes remaining, they had the TMC lead down to just six points. However, Wachs scored two baskets, assisted on another and sophomore Garry Horton connected on two free throws to stem the tide.
Connecting on 11-of-15 free throws down the stretch kept LaGrange from thinking of any comeback attempts.
Woodard finished the game with a game-high 25 points with five rebounds and five assists. Wachs added 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Thurman secured his fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards, while Horton scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a career-high three blocks.
Sophomore guard Ed Thornton scored a career-high 10 points and dished out a career-high four assists in the win.
LaGrange (4-12) also had five players in double figures led by Michael Patterson, who scored 21 points. Demetris Render came off the bench for 19.
