The Terror shot out of the gates taking an 8-1 lead with 15:38 left in the first half. The Mules answered with an 11-2 run before Sean McNeely hit a jumper with 12:56 left to tie the score at 12-12.
The two schools would trade baskets before the Mules went on a 15-3 run to take a 34-27 lead with 1:35 remaining until the break. The Terror finished the half on a 5-0 run to make it 34-32 at the half.
Muhlenberg’s Stewart led all scorers and rebounders with 13 points and five rebounds in the first half.
McDaniel regained the lead with 15:00 minutes left in the second half, 47-46, off a Josh McKay jumper. The Terror would go on 12-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 59-50 with 11:15 left in the game.
The Mules answered by going on an 8-0 run thanks to a pair of Chris Pothering three-pointers to pull within one, 59-58. McDaniel scored five straight to extend their lead to 64-58, but Muhlenberg responded with a 5-0 run themselves to make it 64-63 in favor of the Terror.
The Mules took their first lead of the game since the 15 minute mark in the second half, on a two free-throws by Stewart, giving them a 73-71 lead with 26 seconds to go in the game. The Mules would not lose that lead the rest of the game, as they went on to win 78-74. Stewart hit 6-6 free-throws in the final seconds of the contest to secure the win.
Stewart finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
McDaniel was led by Kyle O’Connor who finished with 18 points. Senior Sam Anstead added 16 points and six rebounds. McNeely was 5-6 shooting, totaling 12 points in only 17 minutes of work.
McDaniel falls to 3-11 overall, 1-6 in the Centennial, while Muhlenberg improves to 4-3, 7-7. The Terror returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Baltimore to take on Johns Hopkins for a 7:00 pm tip-off on the Homewood Campus.
