Gwynedd-Mercy 75, Cabrini 61

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. — Gwynedd-Mercy pulled away late to defeat Cabrini, 75-61, in a matchup of two unbeaten Pennsylvania Athletic Conference squads Saturday afternoon at the Griffin Complex.

Freshman Troy Bixler came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points, connecting on six three-pointers to lead the Griffins to their third-straight victory.

The victory was also the 50th for third-year GMC Head Coach John Baron. He now has a career record of 50-19.

Bixler's back-to-back treys towards the end of the first half helped Gwynedd-Mercy (11-3, 5-0 PAC) erase a seven-point deficit, deadlocking the teams at 27-27 at the break.

Senior Badou Gaye gave GMC a 45-37 lead with 13:44 in the game on a dunk from Jeff Thomas. Gaye totaled 13 points with a game-high 11 rebounds and five blocks.

The Cavaliers (8-5, 5-1 PAC) responded by going on a 19-5 run to take a 56-50 lead with 7:38 to play capped off by Jim McMahon's three-pointer. McMahon finished with 10 points and six boards.

The Griffins tied it at 56-56 on two Gaye free-throws and took the lead for good as Courtney Griffin hit one of two from the line to take a 57-56 lead with 5:47 remaining.

Bixler helped put the game out of reach as he nailed a trey at the top of the key as the shot clock sounded to give Gwynedd-Mercy a nine-point lead with 1:28 in the contest.

Dan Clemens led Cabrini with 12 points while teammate Messiah Reames added 10. As a team, the Cavs were 21-of-62 (38.7%) including 11-of-29 from beyond the arc. The Griffins hit on 23-of-56 (41.4%) including a 14-of-27 (51.9%) stint in the second half. GMC also held a 52-38 rebound advantage.

Thomas and junior Rick Haas each added 13 points respectively for Gwynedd.
