Cortland State 82, Fredonia State 58

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Sophomore Rod Headley (Peekskill) scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Cortland stayed perfect in SUNYAC play with an 82-58 win versus Fredonia.

Headley made 8-of-12 shots for the Red Dragons (8-4, 4-0 SUNYAC), who led by 10 points at halftime and used a 13-4 run in the first six minutes of the second half to help secure the victory. Sophomore Dave Maggiacomo (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) made 4-of-7 three-pointers on his way to a career-best 13 points.

Junior Frank Ranieri (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) added 10 points, senior Justin O'Garrow (Port Washington/Paul D. Schreiber) scored eight points and dished out three assists and junior Brian Kirchhoff (Webster) finished with seven points and six rebounds.

Freshman Kyle Gordon (Canandaigua) led Fredonia (6-7, 2-3 SUNYAC) with 18 points. He finished 8-of-9 from the floor, making his first eight shots before missing a layup on a fast break early in the second half. Gordon also pulled down six rebounds.

Sophomore Taha Alassari (Amherst/Sweet Home) scored 11 points and recorded team-highs of eight rebounds and four assists. He shared the assist lead with Chris Kensy (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and Tim Anderson (Jamestown).

Fredonia led 18-17 on a Gordon layup with 10:22 left in the first half. Gordon's layup at the 9:08 mark tied the game at 21-21, but Cortland answered with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes, including a Headley three-point play and a three-point jumper by freshman Michael Jankiewicz (Oriskany), to take the lead for good.
