Concordia hoped for a better chance on their home floor in a Jan. 15 match-up against Clarke College, but the Crusaders played spoilers to the tune of 65-49. Senior brothers Hiraman and Joemi Byrd led the visitors with 23 and 14 points respectively, and Hiraman Byrd led all players in rebounds with 11. Chris Kilburg added a strong inside presence with 10 points and seven rebounds. Clarke’s dominance in the paint was demonstrated by the final rebound margin (49-32) and number of free throws; Clarke converted on 19 of 32 while the Cougars made it to the line just 18 times, connecting on eight. Andre Smith led the Cougars with a season-high 17 points while Robert Lorenzen added nine.
