Christopher Newport 88, Chowan 66

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Christopher Newport's men's basketball team scored 55 points in the first half half and bounced back from Wednesday's loss at Shenandoah for an 88-66 non-conference win over Chowan Saturday afternoon.

The Captains scored 55 points in the first on 21-of-34 (62%) shooting from the field and 11-of-18 (61%) from the free throw line. CNU held Chowan to 33 points in the first on 13-of-36 (36%) shooting from the field, 3-of-10 on three's and 4-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Both teams scored 33 points in a sloppy second half. The Braves finished the half shooting 13-of-36 again, was 4-of-12 on three's and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. CNU was 15-of-28 (54%) from the field and 3-of-5 on three's.

For the game, Chowan was 26-of-72 (36%) from the floor, 7-of-22 (32%) on three's and 7-of-13 (54%) from the charity stripe. The Captains finished 36-of-62 (58%) from the field, 14-of-23 (61%) on three's and 11-of-18 from the free throw line.

The Braves were led by Roland Brown with 12 points and Montino Williams added 10 points.

CNU was led by Jeremy Romeo with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooing from the field including 7-of-9 on three's. Roderic Carey finished with 13 points and Brandon Brooks had 10 off the bench. The Captains were out rebounded for the second straight time and third of the year.

Chowan drops to 7-8 on the year while CNU improves to 10-3 overall. The Captains return to action this Tuesday as they travel to NC Wesleyan with tip set for 7:30 pm.
