Benedictine (13-3, 3-0 NIIC) opened the game on an 11-4 run, with Will Crawford scoring six points. After a bucket Reynold Peete got Eureka (5-10, 1-2 NIIC) to within 11-6, Ramey and Matt Harrison hit 3-pointers to open and close, respectively, a 10-0 run that left the Eagles with a 21-6 lead just more than eight minutes into the contest.
After Claye Vogelsang scored to cut Benedictine's lead to 31-18 with 2:30 left in the first stanza, Ramey found Brice Amelianovich for a pair of lay-ups and drained another trey to push his team's lead to 17 (38-21). Harrison found Jimmy Franklin for a 3-pointer from the corner just before the half that sent the Eagles to the break with a 41-25 lead.
Crawford scored six points after Marcus Jackson opened the half with a pair of scores, which gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the day at 51-31. Benedictine kept its lead at 16 points or better, and led by 20 (58-38) again after two Mike Shimkus free throws.
Eureka got back into the game by scoring 16 of the next 20 points over a five-minute span. Vogelsang had seven points in the spurt, including a jumper that got the Red Devils to within eight (64-46) with 7:27 left in regulation.
Ramey took over the game from that point, beginning with an assist on a Crawford jumper that started an 8-0 run and put Benedictine back up by 16 (72-56). He racked up three more assists over the next five minutes, while also adding a pair of three-point plays and knocking down two other free throws. The Eagles led by at least 20 for much of the rest of the game.
Ramey, Crawford (18), Jackson (14) and Harrison (11) all scored in double figures for Benedictine, which improved to 13-1 this season when at least three players reach double figures in the scoring column. The Eagles shot 55 percent (33-60) from the field for the game, and converted 22-of-27 free throws, compared to Eureka's 37 percent shooting and 9-of-12 effort from the line.
Vogelsang netted a game-high 24 points in the loss for Eureka, while AJ Richard added a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards before fouling out. Erik Kurtenbach added 11 points as well.
Benedictine will enjoy a week off before returning home to host Concordia (Ill.) University on Saturday, Jan. 22.
