Pacific Lutheran 67, Whitman 64

TACOMA, Wash. — Kurt Oliver hit a three-point shot from the top of the key with 1.4 seconds left in regulation to lift the Pacific Lutheran men's basketball team to a 67-64 Northwest Conference victory over Whitman (2-9, 0-3 NWC) tonight in Olson Auditorium.

The Lutes, now 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference, rallied from a 53-48 deficit with five minutes left in regulation. Jake Carstensten hit a three-pointer with 4:52 left to bring the Lutes to within two. After a Whitman turnover, Drew Cardwell was fouled and made both free throws to tie the score.

After a missed shot, Carstensten was fouled and converted both foul shots for a 55-53 Lute lead. Matt Kelly tied the score with two free throws with 3:39 left in the game, but Cardwell answered with a three-pointer and Landon Heidenreich scored on a lay-up with 2:38 remaining to give the Lutes a 60-55 advantage.

Ian Warner's three-pointer and two free throws by Nick Parker knotted the score at 60-apiece with 1:11 remaining. Oliver sank a three-pointer with 57 seconds left and the two teams traded two free throws before Kelly connected from the three-point line to tie the score at 64-each with 13 seconds left.
