After failing to connect on several shots to open the game, the Pioneers eventually found the bottom of the net and were able to put its full-court press into motion and speed up the game. “I really think the key to the game for us was when were able to get into our press,” said head coach David Schultz. “We generated a lot of offense off of our defense and I think our depth eventually wore them down.”
With tomorrow’s games against Lake Forest College looming, the Pioneers were able to get a lot of guys on the court tonight. In all, 14 players scored with 19 getting court time. Senior Ben Hickethier and sophomores Nathan Drury and Buck Colomy shared the team-high in scoring with 15 points apiece. Knox’s Jared Kelly led all scorers with 16 points.
Carroll shot 49.2% from the field while the Prairie Fire finished at 44.6%. The Pioneers held a big advantage at the free-throw line, outscoring the Prairie Fire 22-8 in free throws.
The win improves Carroll to 8-3 overall, 3-1 in the Midwest Conference while Knox falls to 7-5 overall, 3-2 in league play.
The tip-off for the Carroll versus Lake Forest game with be 4:00 p.m.
