Senior guard Robert Sullivan scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Pioneers (10-4), while McGee pulled down a career-high nine boards and added five assists in the victory. For the game, William Paterson owned a 44-14 advantage on points in the paint and outrebounded the Panthers (5-7), 49-27.
Freshman guard Chad Charney hit all four of his field-goal attempts, all 3-pointers, to lead four Purchase players in double digits with 12 points.
William Paterson led 21-14 before going on its 17-5 burst as McGee scored six points and sophomore forward Luis Martinez added six to give their team a 38-19 lead. The Pioneers shot 61.8 percent in the first half and led 49-30 at the break.
Martinez finished with eight points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench for William Paterson, while junior guard Mario Rivero also pumped in eight points.
Senior guard Akantude Henderson-Amare and junior guard Peter Tambakis each scored 11 points for the Panthers, while senior center Benny Rupel (New York, NY/Humanties) added 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.
William Paterson returns to action Saturday, Jan. 15, when its hosts Farmingdale State for a non-conference game beginning at 1 p.m. SUNY Purchase’s next game is at home against Lehman College on Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m.
