Western New England 89, Albertus Magnus 60

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) scored a game high 21 points and senior forward Anthony Charbatji (Attleboro, MA) added 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field (including 4-of-6 three-pointers) as Western New England College used a strong second half to power past Albertus Magnus College 89-60 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.

Sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) contributed a double double with 14 points and a game high 11 rebounds as the Golden Bears improved their record to 7-4 and 4-1 in the conference. Senior guard Jeremy Sternstein (Ithaca, NY) had a career high nine assists.

With only six players in uniform, Albertus Magnus (0-10, 0-5) shot 45.8% in the first half and trailed only 37-34 at intermission. However, Western New England College outscored the tired Falcons 52-26 in the second half.

The Golden Bears received 28 points from their reserves as senior forward Jason Cardinal (Ashaway, RI) and junior guard Matt Gigliello (Monroe Township, NJ) each had eight points.

Senior guard Tim Russell (Burlington, CT), who started the week as the nation's leading Division III scorer with a 31.3 average, led Albertus with 18 points.

Freshman guard Tom Eckert (Wallingford, CT) had 17 points while sophomore center Bill Rose (Guilford, CT) added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Nick Wajanowski (West Haven, CT) had 10 assists,

Western New England College earlier this season defeated Albertus Magnus 79-67 on December 7.
