Massachusetts College 78, Elms 77

CHICOPEE, Ma. — Elms College senior guard Kyle Seyboth (Seekonk, MA) netted a season-high 29 points, including nine 3-pointers, but Massachusetts College senior guard Robert Mitchell (Brooklyn, NY) dropped 27 points, including the winning layup with 7.1 seconds remaining to lift the visiting Trailblazers to a thrilling 78-77 win over the Blazers in Thursday night’s non-conference men’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

The game featured a total of 14 lead changes, including nine in the second half. Seyboth had given the Blazers a 77-76 lead with his season-best ninth 3-pointer of the night with 15 seconds remaining.

Mitchell, however, responded for the Trailblazers after driving past two defenders and laying in the winning shot in the closing seconds to secure the victory.

Junior guard Adam Garner (North Adams, MA) finished with 17 points and sophomore guard J.P. Quintal (Queensbury, NY) added 11 points as the other players to reach double figures for Massachusetts College, which won for the fourth time in its last five games to improve to 5-5 overall.

Junior guard James Vassar (Waterbury, CT) recorded a season-best 17 points and freshman forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) added his second double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Blazers (7-5 overall).

Elms College returns to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday, January 15 at Mount Ida College. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
