Catholic 63, St. Mary's (Md.) 45

St. Mary's City, MD — The Catholic University men's basketball team shot 53.2 percent from the field in securing a 63-45 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) victory over St. Mary's College on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while the Seahawks fall to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in CAC action with the loss.

Junior forward/center Shane Sowden posted a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds to led the Cardinals to the victory. Sowden connected on 13-16 from the field. Sophomore forward Patrick Dwyer added 14 points on 5-7 shooting from the field, while sophomore guard Mike Wasilenko posted a game-high 11 assists for Catholic. As a team, the Cardinals assisted on 21 of their 25 total field goals in the contest.

For the Seahawks, senior forward John Dewey was the only player to reach double figures. Dewey scored 13 points in the contest on 6-9 shooting from the field. Junior guard Ben Stewart added eight points, while sophomore guard Dan Engelstad and senior forward Jeffrey Turner each scored six points and added four rebounds for St. Mary's College.

The Seahawks (5-7, 1-2 CAC) will return to action on Saturday, January 15, when they host York College (PA) in a CAC contest. The game will follow the women's contest and is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
