Fayetteville, N.C. — Greensboro College's Rodney Blackstock tied for high game scoring honors with 25 points, but The Pride lost its USA South opener, 77-70, at Methodist on Wednesday night.

Blackstock made two free throws that cut the Monarch lead to three points (66-63) with 2:23 remaining, but GC could not get closer. Blackstock was 9-11 from the charity stripe and added 8 rebounds for GC. The Pride was 19-21 from the free throw line.

"We cut the lead to three but then made some big turnovers down the stretch," said GC Head Coach Rusty LaRue. "We also didn't pressure them enough on the perimeter, which resulted open looks from the outside."

The Monarchs converted eight three point baskets to just one for The Pride.

Eugene Clark led Methodist (8-4, 1-0) home team with 25 points. He was 10-13 from the free throw line. Teammate Seth Thomas tallied 20. MC outshot GC 52-percent (22-57) to 44 percent (22-57). The Monarchs converted eight three point baskets to just one for The Pride.

Daron Williams recorded 12 points and Brian Holloway scored 11 points (5-7 shooting) and 7 rebounds for Greensboro (4-9, 0-1). B.J. Bryant grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 9 points.

The Pride rallied from a 14-point deficit to trail 37-33 at halftime.
