The Sabres shot 57.1 percent from the field, while Edgewood struggled to find its groove on its home court. The Eagles were cold from long distance, going 2-of-13 from three-point range after missing all seven of their first-half attempts from beyond the arc.
Edgewood trailed 28-27 at halftime, but quickly regained a modest lead early into the second half. However, a three pointer by the Sabres’ Jordan Van Ess with 16:58 remaining sparked a 14-0 run by Marian, in which the squad connected on six straight baskets without a miss.
The Eagles shot just 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the field. Junior Seth Cooper led the team with 15 points after being held to just six points in the first half. Cooper also finished with a game-high six assists. Senior Greg Blaska registered 13 points, on 6-of-9 shooting, and eight rebounds. Freshman Charlie Averkamp posted 12 points and seven boards.
Titus Redmond paced Marian with a game-high 19 points, followed by Casey Wuest and David Whitenack who added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Marian converted on 16 second-chance points after out-rebounding the Eagles 11-7 on the offensive glass. Defensively, Nick Vogt tallied five of Marian’s nine steals.
