Bridgewater (Va.) 72, Virginia Wesleyan 60

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Bridgewater scored the first five points of the game and never trailed Wednesday night in a 72-60 victory over nationally-ranked Virginia Wesleyan.

Ashby Tarkington opened the game with a three and Ricky Easterling hit two free throws for a 5-0 lead. The Marlins tied the score at 9-9 on a jumper by Peter Warren, but the Eagles reeled off seven straight points to regain the lead for good.

Easterling led the Eagles with 35 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the floor and 11-of-14 from the foul line. Tarkington added 13 points and Clay Michael finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds – his third straight double-double of the season.

Brandon Adair led the Marlins, ranked No. 23 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, with 20 points and 10 boards. Warren added 17 points and Rodney Young 10 points.

The Eagles improved to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the ODAC. The Marlins dropped to 11-3 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
