Penn State-Altoona 78, Waynesburg 68

ALTOONA, Pa. — The Yellow Jackets could not overcome a strong shooting performance by Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday night, falling 78-68. The loss was the second straight for the men's basketball team after defeating two other PSU branch campuses. The Lions shot 50 percent from the field in the win compared to 38 percent by the Jackets.

Waynesburg held a 60-58 lead with 6:30 remaining in the game before PSU-Altoona went on a 12-5 run in a five-minute span, which forced the Jackets into a late-game foul situation.

The Jackets forced 12 Lion turnovers in the first half, but due to a .591 field goal percentage by PSU, they trailed 31-27 at halftime. The Lions would expand its second half lead to as much as nine minutes prior to the last minute fouls by WC.

Sophomore Jeff Nero scored 11 of team-high 20 points in the first half, when the Jackets shot .323 from the field. Nero also finished with a team-high six rebounds, including five offensive.

Classmates Marc Lodovico and Shawn Coleman finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.

Franklin Tyler scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-17 attempts from the field for the Lions. All five of the PSU-Altoona starters scored in double figures, including Barry Minemyer, who finished with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Waynesburg (6-8) returns to the courts on Saturday when it travels to Washington & Jefferson to start conference play with a 7:30 p.m. tip off. Last season, the Yellow Jackets swept the two-game season series against the Presidents.
