ALTOONA, Pa. — The Yellow Jackets could not overcome a strong shooting performance by Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday night, falling 78-68. The loss was the second straight for the men's basketball team after defeating two other PSU branch campuses. Waynesburg held a 60-58 lead with 6:30 remaining in the game before PSU-Altoona went on a 12-5 run in a five-minute span, which forced the Jackets into a late-game foul situation.
The Jackets forced 12 Lion turnovers in the first half, but due to a .591 field goal percentage by PSU, they trailed 31-27 at halftime. The Lions would expand its second half lead to as much as nine minutes prior to the last minute fouls by WC.
Sophomore Jeff Nero scored 11 of team-high 20 points in the first half, when the Jackets shot .323 from the field. Nero also finished with a team-high six rebounds, including five offensive.
Classmates Marc Lodovico and Shawn Coleman finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.
Franklin Tyler scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-17 attempts from the field for the Lions. All five of the PSU-Altoona starters scored in double figures, including Barry Minemyer, who finished with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Waynesburg (6-8) returns to the courts on Saturday when it travels to Washington & Jefferson to start conference play with a 7:30 p.m. tip off. Last season, the Yellow Jackets swept the two-game season series against the Presidents.
