The victory stops a four-game losing streak for Plymouth State, which improves to 4-8 overall, while the Beavers dropped to 8-4. PSU overcame a 12-point second-half deficit by shooting 50 percent and scoring 50 points after the break.
Mahoney came off the Panther bench to connect on 9-of-13 field goal attempts for her 23 points, while adding two assists and three steals in just 22 minutes. Freshman Meghan MacDonald (Salem, N.H.) contributed 15 points and five assists, and senior Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) posted her first double-double of the season with 14 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Sadie Hardiman (Loudon, N.H.) also had a strong game off the Panther bench, scoring seven points and grabbing a team-high 13 points in just 20 minutes.
Senior Kate LaHaye (Belfast, Maine) led the Beavers with 21 points and seven rebounds. Senior Desirae Haines (Lincoln, Maine) added 16 points, and junior Brandi Rideout (Mattawamkeag, Maine) and sophomore Karen Sirois (Augusta, Maine) chipped in with 11 points apiece. Sirois also recorded the double-double with 11 assists.
UMaine Farmington maintained control of the game throughout the first half, as the hosts never led in the opening 20 minutes. UMF led by as much as 13 points (26-13) midway through the frame before PSU battled back to pull to within four (37-33) by halftime.
After the Beavers opened the second half with an 11-3 run, taking a 12-point advantage (48-36) with 15:26 remaining, PSU began its comeback with 15 consecutive points, including nine by Mahoney and four by Devereaux, to assume a three-point lead (51-48) with 12 minutes to play. UMF had a 66-61 lead with 6:30 remaining, but PSU went on another spurt, outscoring the Beavers 16-1 over the next five minutes to take an insurmountable 77-67 lead with a minute and a half remaining.
The Panthers are right back in action Saturday with an LEC home affair against Western Connecticut (1:00 p.m.). UMF returns home to host Lesley University Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
