Drahos scored the millennium mark on Bethany’s first possession in the second half. His layup put Bethany ahead by 20 at 42-22 with 19:31 remaining.
While Bethany took a moment to celebrate, McKeesport temporarily spoiled the party by cutting their deficit to 10 point, 47-37, two minutes later with a 15-5 spurt. The Bison answered, going on an 11-2 run that put the game out of reach for the visitors.
Matt Drahos finished the game with 24 points and 11 rebounds. His brother Mike Drahos – who is also closing in on the 1,000 point mark – chipped in 25 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Bethany also received a strong performance from Jim Deep, who canned three trifectas on his way to 18 points. James Wallace nabbed a game-best 13 rebounds for the 12-2 Bison men.
Penn State McKeesport was led by Lydell Walker’s 18 points. Both Anthony Rivers and Andrae King scored 14 points in the loss.
Drahos became the second Bethany player to score their 1,000th point this month. Nikki Babik, a senior for the women’s basketball team, eclipsed the milestone on Saturday in a win over the College of St. Elizabeth.
