With the win, the Blazers improved to 7-4 overall, 3-2 NAC. The Terriers fell to 4-9 overall, 1-2 NAC.
Sunday’s game featured eight lead changes, including five in the final seven minutes of regulation.
Senior guard Kyle Seyboth (Seekonk, MA) hit a clutch 3-pointer with 5:05 remaining to give the Blazers a 68-66 lead. Freshman forward Nathan Hawes (New Hope, MN) followed with consecutive layups to extend the Blazers’ lead to 72-68 in the final two minutes of regulation.
Thomas, however, battled back to score the final four points of regulation, capped off by freshman forward Joshua Yucius’s (Hanson, MA) layup with 40 seconds remaining.
From there, however, it was all Elms College, as the Blazers outscored Thomas 14-8 in the extra session.
Sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) finished with 19 points and a game-high eight assists, Seyboth had 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Hawes added 10 points and a collegiate career-high 17 rebounds and four blocks for the Blazers in the victory.
Junior guard Adam Rich (Madison, ME) led all scorers with 26 points, including 11 points in the game’s opening eight minutes to spark the Terriers to an early 18-6 lead.
Yucius tallied 14 points and junior forward James Godley (Brookton, ME) had 13 points to also reach double figures for the Terriers in the loss.
Elms College returns to action on Thursday, January 13 when it hosts Massachusetts College. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
