DePauw 65, Millsaps 63

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The Tigers completed their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend with a sweep as they held on for a 65-63 win over visiting Millsaps. DePauw improved to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the SCAC with its third straight win, while Millsaps dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

An off-balance three-point attempt by the Majors' Justin LeBlanc with three seconds left glanced off the rim and Steve Schott snared the rebound to give the Tigers the win.

The Tigers trailed 63-61 after Tyler Warren hit a three-pointer with just over three minutes to play. Austin Brown knotted the score at 63-63 on a layup with just over two minutes to play and Alex Stewart put the Tigers ahead, 65-63, on a layup with 1:31 remaining.

The teams exchanged misses and Millsaps called a timeout with 12 seconds left. The DePauw defense applied the pressure that forced the Majors into the final shot.

"We got some big offensive rebounds late that put us in a position to win the game," DePauw head coach Bill Fenlon said.

The Tigers jumped out to a 28-18 lead as they hitt 10 of their first 12 shots, but as hot as they were from the floor in the opening 12 minutes was as cold as they were over the final eight of the half.

Millsaps scored 18 straight points in less than five minutes as they hit eight of nine from the floor while the Tigers missed eight shots and committed four turnovers. The Majors went to the break with a 43-33 lead.

DePauw opened the second half with six straight to close the gap to 43-39 with 17:26 left. Millsaps stayed in front most of the half with as much as a seven-point advantage on three occasions with the last coming on Rodney Rogan's bucket with 9:07 left that made it 54-47.

Reid Sakel knocked down a three before Stewart hit two free throws and Schott scored on a layup to tie the score at 54-54 with 6:27 left. The Majors scored the next four to take a four-point lead, but the Tigers came right back with five straight to lead 59-58 with 5:05 remaining.

Stewart led four DePauw double-figure scorers with 18 points and also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out a career-high six assists. Sakel and Brown each finished with 12 points and Schott posted his second double-double of the weekend with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Rogan paced Millsaps with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Warren chipped in 20 points and Deonte Oscar recorded six assists.

The Tigers shot 44.7 percent for the game, while the Majors hit 42.6 percent and only 26.9 percent in the second half.

"They (Millsaps) didn't really go on any runs in the second half which was fortunate for us," Fenlon said.

DePauw held a 37-26 advantage on the boards and connected on 18 of 22 free throws with Stewart hitting 10 of 11.
