Calvin Nite led the Cowboys effort with 20 points and 12 rebounds. It was the second straight game Nite has scored 20 or more points. Garrett Pool and Tanner Kudrna added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Pool scored six points down the stretch for the Cowboys. He had served a one-game suspension for violation of team rules on Thursday night, but was clutch for the Cowboys down the stretch.
Tanner Kudrna tied the game at 58 with a 3-pointer at the 3:02 mark. Pool then had back-to-back steals and he scored a lay-up on one and then was fouled and hit two free throws in a 20-second span to give the Cowboys a 62-58 lead.
Nite scored six of the last eight points in the final minute for the Cowboys. He hit a 3-pointer with :49 left to make it a 65-60 game and then followed a pair of Pool free throws by hitting three of four free throws in the final five seconds. The game had six ties and their were 11 lead changes.
Brent Johnson had 23 points to lead Ozarks.
With the win HSU improved to 8-4 on the year and to 6-3 in conference play. Ozarks fell to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in league play. The Cowboys host arch-rival Howard Payne on Thursday at the Mabee Complex.
