Roger Williams 85, University of New England 56

BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Roger Williams University Hawks shot 51.5 percent (34 of 66) from the floor to place five players in double figures in a 85-56 rout of the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Leading 36-25 at halftime, the Hawks (3-6, 2-0) scored 10 of the first 14 points of the second frame to establish a 46-29 advantage and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Junior forward Andrew Viana (Bristol, R.I.) had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for Roger Williams. Six-foot-eleven first-year center Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, Conn.) contributed 14 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks, while junior Chris Cormier (Trumbull, Conn.) added 11 points.

Senior Brian Scharrenweber (Salisbury, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon Parrish (Lincoln, R.I.) each scored 10 points for the Hawks, who committed just nine turnovers.

UNE (4-6, 0-3) had four players in double figures, led by junior Mark Oliver's (Gloucester, Mass.) 12. Classmate Matt McManus (Cumberland, R.I.) scored 11, and junior Mike Warner (Springvale, Maine) and sophomore Nick Farynaz (Gray, Maine) tallied 10 apiece.

The Nor'easters are idle until next Saturday when they travel to Wenham, Mass. for a conference contest with Gordon College.
