The New York City College of Technology women’s basketball team topped their CUNY Athletic Conference rival, The City College of New York, 59-40 this afternoon at City Tech’s Klitgord Center. The team returns to the court on Wednesday, January 12 to face the College of Staten Island (5:00) in battles of CUNYAC South Division leaders. The CSI women are 4-0 in league play, while the Yellow Jacket women are 3-1 in CUNY.
CCNY tipped-off the day strong also, surging out to a 12-4 lead seven minutes into the game, before the Yellow Jackets embarked on a 16-0 run to take the lead for good. A ten-point halftime lead (31-21) was extended to a City Tech 19-point advantage in the final score. The Yellow Jackets (5-5, 3-1 CUNY) dominated CCNY (1-10, 0-4 CUNY) on th boards, 69-36.
City Tech was led by Camille Manning (William C. Bryant/Queens, NY), the National Division III scoring leader, with 22 points and nine rebounds. Fellow senior Nichola Hall (St. Andrew’s Technical/Bronx, NY) grabbed a game-high 17 boards to go along with 11 points. Sophomore guard Nicola Clarke, only three games into her City Tech career, was strong once again, scoring 16 points and pulling down eight rebounds of her own. Junior forward Shalina Brown (Westbury/Westbury, NY) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 caroms as well.
CCNY was led by senior guard Azizi-Jahara Figueroa (Murry Bergtraum/New York, NY) with 16 points and nine rebounds and sophomore center Sonia Fukushima (Centerreach/New York, NY) who had ten points and ten rebounds.
