Maryville (Mo.) 84, Greenville 69

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Maryville University's men's basketball team remained a perfect 3-0 on their home court with an 84-69 win over Greenville College (IL) in their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opener. The Saints improve to 4-8 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while the Panthers drop to 3-9 overall and 0-1 in the SLIAC.
It was Maryville's play in the first half that won them the game. The Saints jumped out to an early lead and shot the lights out, hitting 18-34 (.529) from the field, including 9-18 (.500) from three-point range. They would take a commanding 50-28 lead going into halftime.
The Saints would maintain their lead well into the second half, leading by as many as 26 points. Greenville did not give up however, and in the final five minutes of the game they would go on a 15-3 run to cut the margin to 15.
Maryville would finish with a 47.7 field-goal percentage, making good on 31-65 shots from the field. They also finished 14-33 (.424) from behind the arc and 8-11 (.727) from the charity stripe, while also out rebounding the Panthers 45-29. Greenville also shot well, posting a 42.4 field-goal percentage for the game.
Juniors Matt Regan and Ryan Klein both posted a team-high 15 points. Klein also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and tallied three assists in the win. Sophomore Jason Rezabek and junior Ben Hebl were the only other Saints players to score in double figures. The two netted 11 and 10 points respectively.
Greenville's Brandon Martin dominated in the paint, sinking 8-13 (.615) for a game-high 18 points. Stuart Spencer and Rod Tucker also added some scoring for the Panthers with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Saints will return to action and look to extend their home win streak to four games on Wednesday, January 12, when they take on Fontbonne University in a 6:00 pm SLIAC matchup at Moloney Arena.
