EMU Men Defeat LC 74-68
LYNCHBURG, VA – Jason Sager scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds Saturday as the Eastern Mennonite University men’s team defeated Lynchburg College 74-68 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
EMU led 40-27 at halftime and extended the lead to as many as 16 early in the second stanza. The Hornets chipped away at the deficit and trailed by just two with eight minutes to play after a pair of free throws from junior guard Matt Sweeney (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown). The Royals held off the Hornet comeback attempt and sealed the game at the free-throw line, scoring their last seven points at the free-throw stripe.
Sweeney had a team-high 16 points, hitting four of his eight three-pointers. Forward Ryan Pehanick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) scored 13 points, leaving him with 993 for his career, and the senior added a team-best seven rebounds. Pete Manos (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Avon Old Farms) added nine points and Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) finished with seven points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Sager hit seven of his 10 field-goal tries en route to his 20 points for Eastern Mennonite (6-4/3-2 ODAC). Korey Whiting had 14 points and six rebounds, Brad Parkes netted 11 points and JoMarrae Gordon posted 10 points and six assists.
Lynchburg (5-7/3-3 ODAC) travels to Bridgewater College Monday for another ODAC clash at 7 p.m.
