Johns Hopkins 82, Washington College 78

BALTIMORE, Md. — Host Johns Hopkins held off a late rally by visiting Washington College to post an 82-78 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory this afternoon in Baltimore, MD. The Blue Jays improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 5-6 and 2-2.

Hopkins, which held a 45-41 lead at halftime, went up 81-71 on a pair of free throws by Danny Nawrocki with 3:28 to play. The Shoremen then reeled off seven straight points, capped off by two free throws from junior guard Kyle Stem with 1:32 remaining, to trim the lead to 81-78. Washington came up empty on its final three possessions, however, missed a three-pointer and committing two turnovers. Frank Mason made one-of-two free throws for the Blue Jays with two seconds left to provide the final margin.

T.J. Valerio led four Blue Jays in double figures with 19 points, while Nawrocki tallied 18 points and seven rebounds. Eric Toback chipped in 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds and Mason added 11 points.

Sophomore forward Joe Breslin scoreda game- and career-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Shoremen. Stem added 21 points, while junior guard Travis Moore finished with 10.

The Blue Jays shot 11-of-24 from beyond the three-point line in the game, while the Shoremen were 0-of-12 from long range. Hopkins also held a 42-25 advantage on the glass. The Shoremen committed eight fewer turnovers than Hopkins (14 to 22) and shot a slightly higher percentage from the field (49% to 46%).
