With the score tied, point guard Sam Wiener's lay-up gave the Pipers (4-7, 2-4) the lead with 4:49 left. On the following possession, guard Jesse Hendricks hit his fourth three-pointer of the game. Senior center Paul Muenchow added a jumper seconds later to give Hamline a seven-point lead.
Early on, it looked like the Pipers would rout the Auggies (5-6, 3-3) as they jumped out to a 23-7 lead midway through the first half. Hendricks scored seven of his team-high 18 points during the span. He was 6 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc for the game.
Hamline held the Auggies to just 22 percent shooting in the first half, holding a 38-27 lead at halftime. Augsburg stayed in the contest hitting on 12 of 16 free throws in the half. Meanwhile, the Pipers shot 48 percent from the field (14-29).
In the second half, Augsburg went on a 12-1 run to take a brief 52-51 lead. Auggie Lucas Olson-Patterson netted five of his game-high 28 points during the run that lasted 2:47. It was the 18th straight game that Olson-Patterson scored in double figures.
The two teams traded the lead 10 times in seven minutes before the Pipers' game-winning run.
Senior forward Brandon Aukes chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds while Muenchow had 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Wiener dished out nine assists in the contest.
Charlie Scott scored 16 points, and Devin Rose added 11 points from the bench for the Auggies.
