Guilford's men (7-4. 2-2 ODAC) defeated Randolph-Macon (6-6, 4-2 ODAC) for the first time since January 12, 1999, with a balanced defensive effort and excellent ball control. Freshmen Kerry Atkinson (Raleigh, NC/Wakefield) and Ben Strong (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) each tallied a team-high 14 points and five rebounds off the bench. The Quakers' reserves outscored their counterparts, 55-22, and Guilford committed a season-low 12 turnovers. Atkinson tallied 11 of his points in eight first-half minutes. He scored seven points during a 19-6 Guilford run over the final 8:40 that turned a tie game into a 44-31 Quakers' edge at the break.
After the lead swelled to as many as 15 points early in the second half, Randolph-Macon pulled to within five points three times in the last five minutes, but drew no closer. Adam Krovic (Durham, NC/Jordan) scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half for Randolph-Macon. ODAC scoring and rebounding leader Justin Wansley (Richmond, VA/Henrico) posted his team-leading seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and game-high 12 boards. Justin Moyer (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) totalled 14 points, four assists and three steals before fouling out.
