Centre 92, Sewanee 74

DANVILLE, Ky. — Centre matches best start in school history

The Centre College men's basketball team won its 11th game in 13 chances this season, topping Sewanee 92-74 to match the team's best start in school history, Saturday, Jan. 8th, in Danville, Ky.

With today's win, the Colonels improve to 11-2 overall, and a 3-0 in the SCAC, while Sewanee falls to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Junior forward Adam Patterson scored a career-high 17 points in 22 minutes off the bench for the Colonels. Patterson was five of nine from the field, including two of five from beyond the three-point arc, and five of six from the charity stripe.

Freshman guard Matt Nestheide also scored 17 points on four of six shooting. Nestheide made four of his six attempts, including three of his four three point attempts, and all six of his free throw attempts.

Junior forward Coy Zerhusen added 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals and senior guard Kyle Roby added 11 points and two steals in the win.

Eugene Talley led Sewanee with 25 points on 7 of 11 shooting. He also made 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. Jason Smith added 18 points in the loss for the Tigers.

Centre led the game for all but 18 seconds and went on a 20-9 scoring run at the end of the first half to go into halftime leading Sewanee 47-27. Patterson scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half to help the Colonels shoot a sizzling 63.0% from the floor.

Sewanee cut the lead to 11 points (50-39) at the 15:50 mark in the second half but could get no closer. The Tigers finished the game shooting 47.4% (27-57), while Centre ended the game at 59.6% (28-47). The Colonels shot 55.6% from beyond the three point arc connecting on 10 of their 18 attempts.

Centre will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to play SCAC foe Oglethorpe on Friday, Jan. 14. The game is set to start at 8 p.m.
