The Saxons (6-6, 1-1 Empire 8) went into halftime with an eight-point lead and started the second half with a 6-0 run. AU hit 54 percent from three-point range and shot 81 percent from the charity strike in the game.
Junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo, NY/Seneca Vocational) led five Saxon scorers in double figures. Bryant finished the game with 24 points to go along with three assists and two steels. Sophomore center Dillon Stein (N. Huntington, PA/Norwin) scored 14 points and had a team-high seven rebounds and seven assists. Junior forward Todd Dersham (Campbell, NY/Campbell-Savona), in his second game back from an injury, hit all nine of his free throws and finished the game with 21 points.
Also scoring in double figures for the Saxons were junior forward Ryan Hallett (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) with 15 and sophomore guard Rob McCarter (Wooster, OH/Wooster) finished with 11. McCarter also added six assists, while sophomore forward Ryan Clemenson (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) grabbed seven boards.
Freshman guard Joe Canori (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had 15 points for Nazareth, while junior forward Matt Groot (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) netted 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The men’s basketball team will be in action next on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m., home against Pitt-Bradford.
