With the win, W&J (3-9) moves into tomorrow night’s championship game (8:00 pm) versus Chowan (N.C.), which defeated Albright, 94-91, behind 31 points from Trayvon Lathan.
The Presidents stormed out to a 19-8 lead and stretched it to 29-12 at the 6:08 mark after a lay-up by Hairston. Freshman guard Tyler Trutza (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) drilled a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer to make it a 42-22 W&J halftime advantage.
Washington & Jefferson led by as many as 25 points in the second half before a late Blazer run cut the final margin to 13.
Hairston added eight rebounds and five assists, while Trutza nailed four triples for 12 points. Sophomore guards Jon Koch (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and Brandon Studer (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh Valley) both netted 11 markers, while sophomore forward Patrick Stewart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) posted 10 points and four rebounds.
Santo Provenzano was held 10 points below his season average with 16 points to lead Hood (5-7).
