St. John Fisher 77, Nazareth 54

PITTSFORD, NY -- — No. 18 St. John Fisher College opened its Empire 8 season with a 77-54 win over visiting Nazareth College on Friday. Nazareth trimmed a 15-point halftime deficit to six at 50-44 with 11 minutes left, but Fisher went on a 14-2 run over the next five minutes to take command. Fisher senior forward Jeff Sidney set a career-high in points (23) and rebounds (14), and became just the 14th player in Fisher history to score over 1,000 points for his career. Fisher's Dan McSweeney also set a career-high for points in a game with 14. Ryan Shipley led Nazareth (4-5, 0-1) with 18 points and 13 rebounds. With the win, Fisher improves to 9-0 on the year and 1-0 in the Empire 8. It is just the second time in Fisher's 42-year history the Cardinals have won their first nine games. Fisher will host R.I.T. at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
