DePauw 75, Oglethorpe 53

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Four Tigers scored in double figures as DePauw defeated visiting Oglethorpe 75-53 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Tigers improved to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC, while the Stormy Petrels dropped to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Tigers led the entire way including by as many as 12 in the first half on the way to a 39-28 halftime advantage. Oglethorpe closed the gap to 10 at 41-31, but DePauw rattled off eight straight with five from Todd Capes and three by Reid Sakel to take a 49-31 lead with 15:18 left. The Tigers took their biggest lead at 63-38 with 7:42 remaining.

Capes led the Tigers with 17 points, while Alex Stewart added 15 points and seven rebounds. Sakel finished with 11 with Steve Schott posting a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Joey Hanger dished out a career-best 11 assists in the victory.

Eric Dickinson led the Petrels with 20 points with Russ Churchwell adding 13 and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Tigers held Oglethorpe 26 points below its league-leading 79.3 points per game as the Stormy Petrels hit just 26 percent from the floor. Meanwhile, DePauw connected on 50 percent including nine of 19 from three-point range. The Tigers also held a 46-26 advantage on the boards.

"I was really pleased with the concentration on the defensive end," DePauw head coach Bill Fenlon said. "We were really focused on what we needed to do to defend them."

DePauw hosts Millsaps on Sunday at noon, while Oglethorpe travels to Rose-Hulman on Sunday. Rose-Hulman defeated Millsaps tonight by a 66-63 count in Terre Haute.
