Bridgewater State 78, Rhode Island College 73

PROVIDENCE, RI. — Bridgewater State College held off a late rush by Rhode Island College to defeat the Anchormen, 78-73, in collegiate men’s basketball action on Thursday night. The Bears up their season record to 5-6, while the loss drops RIC to 6-4 overall.

The Anchormen saw a three-game winning streak and their nine-game, home, unbeaten streak come to an end in the loss. BSC senior forward Peter Santos (Fairhaven, MA) led all scorers with 24 points and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) pumped in 18 points with six boards, two assists and one steal. Junior guard Cliff Furtado (Fall River, MA) had 17 points and three steals.

RIC sophomore forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) scored a career-high 14 points, with six rebounds and two blocks in a losing effort. Sophomore guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) added 14 points, eight boards and four assists.

In upcoming action, RIC will host UMass-Boston on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m.
