MIT jumped out to a 21-5 lead holding Coast Guard to just one field goal for the first 12:45 of the game.
Coast Guard used a 16-4 run to cut the lead to 25-21 with 1:08 left in the first half. MIT led 31-23 at halftime.
MIT increased its lead to 44-29 during the first five minutes of the second half.
Ryan Ball, who led Coast Guard with 14 points, hit back-to-back three pointers and the Bears cut the lead to 46-38 with 10:49 to play, that was as close as the Bears would get as MIT then scored nine of the next ten points to pull away.
Mike D’Auria added 17 points while Will Mroz had 12 points for MIT (6-3, 1-0).
Jeff Prebeck added 12 points for Coast Guard (6-3, 0-1).
