St. Davids, PA (January 5, 2005) - The Eastern University women's basketball team (3-5, 1-1 PAC) opened the second half of the 2004-2005 season with a 22-point home win over the visiting Patriots of Valley Forge Christian College.
Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Amanda Magri (Clayton, DE/Smyrna) who deposited 29 points in 21 minutes to lead the Eagles to a 72-50 victory. The 5'7 guard hit on 13 of 19 field goals including 1 for 1 from behind the arc. Also contributing for the Eagles was junior Anna Mead (Russell, PA / Cuyahoga Valley) who played in just her third game this year having spent her first semester in Austria. The 5'10 center posted a double-double netting 10 points and 14 rebounds. Three Eagles posted three assists on the night including freshmen Mandy Kuiken (Pompton Plains, NJ / Eastern Christian) and Patrice Freeman (New Castle, DE / New Castle Baptist) and sophomore Raya Shores (Athens, PA/Athens). Mandy and Raya also added team-high's in steals with five each, while Patrice chipped in with five points and four rebounds. Senior Lisa Kubachka (Shade, OH/Alexander) had a nice line in her 22 minutes collecting five points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal.
The Eagles will open the conference season on Saturday when they travel to cross-street rival Cabrini College for a 1pm game. The women will be the opening match of a conference double-header. The men start at 3pm. The Eastern women are currently 1-1 in conference play.
