Baldwin-Wallace 74, Mount Union 71

Berea, Ohio — Brothers Thad Davis and Tori Davis each contributed a double-double tonight (January 5, 2005) as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College, 74-71, at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The victory was B-W's fifth straight.

Thad Davis, a senior forward, scored a team-high 28 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Tori Davis, a sophomore forward had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Thad Davis also blocked a game-tying shot attempt by Mt. Union junior forward Brett Hershberger as time expired to preserve the win.

With its win, B-W is now 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. With its loss, Mt. Union fell to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the OAC and broke a two-game win streak.

In the first half, B-W led by as many as 11 points on three separate occassions with the last one being at 35-24 with 1:23 left before halftime when Thad Davis scored on a jumper. The Yellow Jackets also led at halftime, 39-30. In the second half, B-W increased its lead to as 15 points at 62-47 when Tori Davis scored on a three-point play with 10:00 left in the game. Mt. Union then outscored B-W 21-7 bover the next 8:30 to close to within 69-68 when senior guard Brad Gerard scored on a layup with 1:30 left. The Davis brothers then made five-of-six foul shots to offset a Hershberger trey.

With his 28 points and 12 rebounds tonight, Thad Davis now has 1,590 career points and 810 career rebounds. He is now seventh on the Yellow Jacket all-time scoring list and fifth in rebounding.

Mt. Union was led by junior center Kyle Karpsinski with a game-high 30 points and Hershberger also scored 19 points and canned five treys.

B-W will be back in action on Saturday, January 8 when it travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play the Wilmington Quakers in an OAC game at the Fred Razik Arena at 3:00 p.m.
