Shenandoah (8-3) led 33-26 at the break, but RC (5-5) hit five of its 10 three-pointers after the break to sneak out the close win. Senior Kevinn Hunter led the Maroons with 18 points, while Tee Jackson and Keith Carter added 12 and 11, respectively.
Roanoke got itself back into the game by going on a seven point run in just 88 seconds from the 17:46 to 16:18 marks – bringing the score to 38-37 in favor of the visitors. The game became tied on three different occasions before the Maroons finally took the lead for good on a Ben Shrader jumper with 10:16 to play.
After the Maroons extended their advantage to as many as seven deep into the second half, SU cut it to just one, 62-61, with 1:56 remaining on a Senior Chris Rhone (Washington, D.C./Northwestern) 10-footer. Unfortunately for the visitors, Roanoke scored the next five points of the game to seal the victory.
Rhone led SU with a game-high 21 points to earn one of the Hornets two spots on the all-tournament team. Sophomore Onyie Onunaku (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson) joined Rhone on the squad by backing up his 11 point, 17 rebound performance in the first round with 12 points and seven rebounds.
