No. 16 Potsdam improved to 8-0 with the non-conference win while the Continentals dropped to 4-4 with their second straight loss. Three of Hamilton's four losses have been at the hands of teams that were in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
Turner finished with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Evril Clayton '05 paced the Bears with 15 points. David Bisesi '08 and Jim Connelly '05 added 11 apiece. Connelly handed out four assists.
Nick Jones '07 notched a game-high 20 points for the Continentals. Jones, who made his first four three-point attempts, has eclipsed the 20-point barrier in each of the last two games. Giorgi Chavleishvili '08 chipped in 14 points. Phil Valenti '06 registered 11 points, a team-high eight rebounds and five steals.
Hamilton's Tim Welchons '06 (seven points) sent the game to overtime by making a floating shot in the lane with five seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 64. The Continentals led 73-68 after Valenti nailed two free throws with 30.1 seconds left in the extra session. Connelly sandwiched two baskets around a free throw by Hamilton's Mike Evans '05 to make the score 74-72 with 11 ticks remaining. The Continentals turned the ball over on the ensuing inbounds play when a five-second violation was called to give the ball back to Potsdam. That set the stage for Turner's heroics.
Hamilton will host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn in a non-league game on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m.
