Centre 78, Berea 66

DANVILLE, Ky. — Roby nets career-high in win over Berea

Senior guard Kyle Roby scored a career-high 18 points and the Centre College men's basketball team defeated Berea College 78-66, Wednesday, Jan. 4, in Danville, Ky.

Roby connected on six of his ten shots from the floor, including two of five from beyond the three-point arc, and four of four from the charity stripe. The senior guard also added four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Freshman guard Matt Nestheide notched 14 points and junior forward Coy Zerhusen posted his third triple-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Melvin Brown led Berea with 19 points on eight of 18 shooting. Thomas Klimas scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Brown also tallied four assists, four rebounds and four steals.

Centre led for much of the first half extending the lead to as many as eight points at three different moments in the half. The Colonels would go to the locker room with a 30-26 lead at the intermission.

A Roby steal and layup to begin the second half ignited a 21-0 Centre run to push the lead to 25 points (51-26) with 15 minutes remaining in the half. During that run, Roby tallied 11 points and three steals.

Centre would extend the lead to as many as 26 points (63-37) in the second half with just under 10 minutes remaining. Berea would make a late run against the Colonels' bench, but it would not be enough.

With the win, Centre improves to 10-2 overall on the year, matching the its best start in school history. The Colonels also started last year 10-2. Berea falls to 6-8 on the season.

Centre will next host The University of the South-Sewanee, Saturday, Jan. 8. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest will start at 3 p.m.
